Esquina Tango
January 29th
Esquina Tango Cultural Society Center

Esquina Tango will host an afternoon of Latin music on Sunday, January 29th, with Austin-based acoustic duo Zafra.  The concert starts at 3 p.m. at the non-profit arts group's East Austin headquarters.
Zafra is the name given to the season of sugarcane harvest in various Latin-American countries - including Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Cuba and Brazil. The time of the zafra gives hope to many peasant workers and families, providing a variety of jobs in the harvesting and processing of sugarcane products into sweeteners and liquors.
Zafra is also the name of an Austin-based acoustic duo specializing in folk and pop music from across Latin-America.  The musician's styles reflect music from México and the Caribbean through Brazil and down to Tierra de Fuego.  Javier Jara sings and plays guitar while Carlos Ufret accompanies and takes solos.
Esquina Tango Cultural Society of Austin is a non-profit organization working to build a vibrant and diverse community in East Austin.  The group emphasizes culture, health, and dance - with an emphasis on Latino heritage, recreational tango and other Argentine traditions - to foster personal wellness and promote understanding of Latino culture.
Tickets for the monthly dance are $5 at the door for adults; children will be admitted free.   Esquina Tango is located at 209 Pedernales Street.  For more information, call (512) 524-2772 or visit online at www.EsquinaTangoAustin.com.
