Wicked
Broadway Across America
January 25th through February 12th
Bates Recital Hall

After breaking box office records and selling out in record time in 2009, the national tour of the hit Broadway musical Wicked returns to Bass Concert Hall, playing January 25th through February 12th, as part of the Wells Fargo Broadway Across America season.  Based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, the musical Wicked won 35 major awards - including a Grammy Award and three Tony Awards.
The untold story of the witches of Oz features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Academy Award winner for Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt) and book by Winnie Holzman ("My So Called Life," "Once And Again" and "thirtysomething"), directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Love! Valour! Compassion!, The Vagina Monologues) with musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento (Aida, The Who's Tommy, How To Succeed…).
Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz.  One - born with emerald-green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood.  The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular.  Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey and how the two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
The musical production features set design by Tony Award winner Eugene Lee (Ragtime, Show Boat, Candide, Sweeney Todd), costume design by Tony winner Susan Hilferty (Into the Woods, Assassins), lighting design by Tony nominee Kenneth Posner (The Coast of Utopia, Hairspray), sound design by Tony Meola (The Lion King), orchestrations by William David Brohn, dance arrangements by James Lynn Abbott, and musical direction by Stephen Oremus.  There are currently seven productions of Wicked worldwide - including two North American tours, the Broadway production, London production, a Japanese-language production, a German-language production and Australian production.  A Dutch-language production opened in November 2011.
Tickets for Wicked start at $38.50 for the performances that will run Tuesdays through Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdasy at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.  An additional matinee is scheduled on Thursday, January 26th, at 2 p.m.
Bass Concert Hall is located at 2350 Robert Dedman Drive on the University of Texas campus.  Tickets will be available at the Bass Concert Hall box office, all Texas Box Office Outlets - including most H-E-B stores - by phone at (512) 477-6060 or online at www.BroadwayAcrossAmerica.com/Austin.
