Spotlight on Opera celebrates Valentine's Day with two nights of concerts that wed the world's most romantic music with the year's most romantic day. The Sing to Love: A Concert for Valentines will be performed on February 11th and 12th at the Bachus Conservatory Recital Hall.

Featuring some of opera's greatest love scenes, the popular concert will also interweave flamenco and belly dancing into romantic scenes and arias. The program includes selections from Madama Butterfly, Turandot, Faust, Il Trovatore, The Marriage of Figaro, Vanessa and more.

The Spotlight on Opera troupe includes a wide variety of singers - from high school students to experienced avocational singers of all ages, as well as emerging and established professionals. Performers for the concert include singers Lisa Alexander, Vanessa Beaumont, Patricia Combs, Andy Fleming, Jasmine Haghighatian, June Julian, Leah Knight, Jeff Leonard, Ariel Rios, Amanda Shelton, Nicholas Simpson and Deanna Waldon, with special appearances by belly dancer Christine Bailey and flamenco dancing by Jessica Blau and friends. Chuck Dillard, music director, will provide accompaniment, with stage direction by program founder Cindy Sadler.

Founded by Sadler in 2007 as a one-week summer program at St. Edward's University, Spotlight on Opera expanded in 2008 to three weeks, featuring two performances of different scenes programs. From Fall 2009 to Summer 2011, the program operated as an official ensemble at St. Edward's University. Spotlight on Opera is now spinning off as an independent, non-profit arts organization and is currently applying for 501(c)3 designation.

The concerts will be performed on Saturday 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $3 students with a valid ID, and will be available at the door. Children under seven years of age will not be permitted.
