Ballet Austin and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema join forces for a fund-raising screening of the classic film The Red Shoes on Thursday, August 5th, at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. The event includes a four-course meal, raffle, and after-party at the Highball.

One of Martin Scorsese's all-time favorite films, The Red Shoes has been restored by the director's newly formed World Cinema Foundation. The full 4K digital frame-by-frame restoration will be shown at the event in one of its first public screening.

The 1948 classic has been responsible for the ballet lessons of more young girls than any other film. Michael Powell and Emerich Pressburger's dark fairy tale tells the story of a young woman, Vicky Page, who is consumed by a will to dance and is accepted into the highly prestigious ballet company run by perfectionist Boris Lermontov. When a gifted young composer becomes the orchestra coach, he composes and conducts the ballet - The Red Shoes - that makes Vicky famous.

Alamo Drafthouse executive chef Trish Eichelberger will create a four-course themed meal with wine pairings to be served during the film, followed by the after-party cocktail reception at the Highball. All proceeds from this evening will benefit Ballet Austin.

Also during the evening, Ballet Austin will raffle off two passes to the September 10th "The Party of the Decade," part of Ballet Austin's Fête10 presented by W Austin, as well as two VIP tickets to the Golden Hornet Project presentation of Metropolis with a live score on September 11th. Both events will be held at the Seaholm Power Plant.

The screening starts at 7 p.m., and tickets are $75 per person. Seating is very limited, and organizers suggest advance reservations.
