Every third Thursday - Salvage Vanguard Theatre will offer a full night of dance performances. The night will include two different professional dance troupes offering two distinct entertainment experiences

“We have been pushing for and really wanting to turn SVT into a hub for fine arts beyond just theater,” said Jenny Larson, Artistic Director of Salvage Vanguard Theater. “We get closer and closer to that goal with each step.”

The evening will begin with a free performance of Ellen Bartel’s staging of Butoh at 7 p.m. A contemporary avant-garde dance form that originated in Japan, Butoh combines dance, theater, improvisation and influences of Japanese traditional performing arts with German Expressionist dance (Neue Tanz) and performance art to create a unique performing art form that is both controversial and universal in its expression. Bartel will be joined by Spank Dance Company dancers Mari Akita and Caroline Sutton Clark to challenge themselves as performers and stage an unusual dance experience.

Following the free performance, Tapestry Dance Company will stage “The Cutting Edge of Tapestry” in the Studio Theatre at 8 p.m. The performance will feature the professional dance company and special guests, including the group’s youth ensemble, academy students and family members - including The Lindy Project. The retrospective will launch the groups’ 20th anniversary season of performances.
