Somewhere in Utopia
Out of Context Productions
January 25th through February 3rd
Salvage Vanguard Theatre

Out of Context Productions continues its inaugural season with the Austin premiere of the new play, Somewhere in Utopia.  Written by Jared J. Stein and directed by Becca Plunkett, performances run January 25th through February 3rd at the Salvage Vanguard Theater as part of the FronteraFest 2012 Long Fringe.
Initially developed in1994 while Stein was a B.F.A. Director at Carnegie Mellon Drama in Pittsburgh, the first full production   was at the Francis Ford Coppola One-Act Marathon in 2000 - while the author was an M.F.A. student at UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television.  Following workshops in Los Angeles, New York and Bulgaria, the work has been revised in collaboration with director Plunkett for the Austin staging.
In the absurdist play, heroes Marcus and Bobby have not left their home in years, and their only joys consist of watching television and waiting for the mail - joys withheld by the omniscient, sadistic and sexually eccentric Narrator.  Then there's Cassady - she was in the body bag.
The work confronts what is deemed "normal" by society by questioning race, gender and the human race's propensity for violence.  The project marks a collaboration between a wide range of current and former Southwestern University students, as well as theatre artists around Austin.
      Performances will be on January 25th at 9:15 p.m., January 28th at 7:15 p.m., February 3rd at 9:15 p.m. and February 4th at 3 p.m.  Tickets are $12 for general admission
The Salvage Vanguard Theatre is located at 2803 Manor Road.  For tickets, information, and a complete list of FronteraFest performances, visit www.FronteraFest.org.
