One Night Shtick: An Evening of Jewlicious Comedy
January 28th
Jewish Community Center

The Jewish Community Center on the Dell Jewish Community Campus will once again host "One Night Shtick: An Evening of Jewlicious Comedy" on Saturday, January 28th, starting at 8 p.m.  The event is part of the 2011-2012 Spotlight on Arts and Ideas Series presented by the Jewish Community Center of Austin.
The cabaret evening kicks off with Jewish Diva Drag, female impersonators presenting an array of Jewish superstars, followed by nationally renowned comedians Cory Kahaney and Jeff Applebaum.   Andy Langer from radio stations KGSR and KROX will serve as emcee for the evening.
Comedienne Kahaney is every woman - mother, daughter, wife and ex-wife. She has appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman," "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and as a regular on "The Joy Behar Show." She made it to the first season finale of NBC's "Last Comic Standing" and has also been featured on her own "Comedy Central Presents" television special, "The View," "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" and "Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher."
Her off-Broadway hit, The J.A.P. Show, ran for six months in New York City and now tours as The Princesses of Comedy.  Her show Pastrami on Rye with Mayo - about the last four comics who work the Catskills, has been selling out theaters to rave reviews.  In addition, Kahaney has developed a successful nationally syndicated radio show, an HBO special and other projects with Warner Brothers and CBS.
New York City native Applebaum uses comedy to detail his particular life experiences - including being the only white kid on his Little League team in the Queens, having a Chinese wife who orders from take-out menus in fluent Mandarin and raising a teen son who calls himself "Jewnese" because he says it sounds better than "Chine-ish." He has appeared on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and opened for comedy legends including Robert Klein, Richard Lewis, Robin Williams and more.
He played the principal role of Joey Bishop in the long-running touring musical tribute The Rat Pack is Back and appeared in the film The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith.
Tickets for "One Night Shtick" are $25 before 5 p.m. on January 20th and $30 after January 20th and at the door.  Both prices include one drink ticket and general admission seating.
The Jewish Community Center is located at 7300 Hart Lane in Northwest Austin, off Far West Boulevard, on the Dell Jewish Community Campus.  For more information and reservations, call (512) 735-8030 or visit www.ShalomAustin.org/tapestry.
