Lucia di Lammermoor
Austin Lyric Opera
January 28th, February 3rd and 5th
The Long Center for the Performing Arts

Donizetti’s most popular work, Lucia di Lammermoor - a thrilling masterpiece of classic Italian opera - is famous for its “mad scene” that has made the careers of some of opera’s greatest voices such as Joan Sutherland and Maria Callas.  Austin Lyric Opera continues its 25th Anniversary Season with performances on January 28th, February 3rd and 5th at The Long Center for the Performing Arts.
The emotionally fragile Lucia is caught in a feud between two families and is forced to marry a man whom she does not love. Russian soprano Lyubov Petrova, last seen by Austin Lyric Opera audiences as “Gilda” in Rigoletto, returns to star in the title role.
The cast also includes Chad Shelton as “Edgardo,” Weston Hurt as “Enrico,” Peter Volpe at “Raimondo,” Brian Joyce as “Arturo Bucklaw,” Liz Cass as “Alisa” and Carey Dietert as “Normando.”  Richard Buckley directs the Austin Lyric Opera orchestra, with stage director by Doug Scholz-Carlson.  Marc David Erck serves as chorus master and assistant conductor.
The sets from New Orleans Opera Association feature scenic design by Roberto Oswald, with costumes from the Utah Symphony and Opera designed by Susan Memmott Allred.  Lighting design is by Kathryn Eader.
Performances will be January 28th and February 3rd at 7:30 p.m., and February 5th at 3 p.m. Ticket prices range from $19 to $200.
The Long Center is located at 701 Riverside Drive, at the corner of South First Street.  For tickets and more information, call (512) 472-5992 or visit www.AustinLyricOpera.org.
