The Late Joys Unplugged
January 4th through 25th
VORTEX Repertory Theatre

With influences that include The Beatles, The Kinks, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, The Jam, The Clash and a slew of 1980s and '90s Brit-pop guitar-based trailblazers, The Late Joys put on a high-octane show that's groovy, melodic and infused with fun.  The Late Joys will be in residence with their sonic confections - with literate lyrics, catchy melodies and unabashedly progressive political sensibilities - for four consecutive Wednesday nights in January at The VORTEX Theatre.
Formed as the house band in a play about working-class Wigan, England - circa 1930 - The Late Joys have evolved into a regularly-booked Austin club act, performing original tunes penned by guitarist and frontman Robi Polgar and lead guitarist Scottie Hickman, as well as a slew of energetic covers from the 1960s to the present. The rhythm section is driven by drummer Matt Patterson and bassist Patrick Lopez, and the band's bright sound is rounded off with the trumpet - and occasional flugelhorn - stylings of Shane Lewis.
The band often performs "unplugged" at more intimate area venues, where a premium is placed on the intricacies of the material as well as the band's penchant for a warm and inviting rapport with the audience.  The Late Joys have performed extensively in Austin, including Momo's, Jovita's, The Saxon Pub, The Carousel Lounge, The Parlor, Dirty Dog Bar and more.
Admission is free, with performances each Wednesday night from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.  The VORTEX Theatre is located at 2307 Manor Road.  For reservations and more information, call (512) 478-LAVA(5282) or visit www.VortexRep.org.
