Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years
February 3rd through 5th
Boyd Vance Theatre

J.R. Cumberbatch Productions is bringing back the acclaimed play Having Our Say, The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years for Black History Month, running February 3rd through 5th at the Boyd Vance Theatre.  Adapted from the book by Sarah L. Delany and A. Elizabeth Delany with Amy Hill Hearth, the first-hand account of American history post-slavery up to the Reagan Administration - through the eyes of Dr. Bessie Delany and her sister, Sadie Delany - provides insightful commentary on social divides, cultural values and community reconciliation.
Two sisters from a family of ten siblings, the pair were born to Nanny James Logan Delany and her husband Bishop Henry Beard Delany - the first African American Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States.  The sisters and their learned, industrious family greatly impacted their generations, leaving a legacy of accomplishments, hard work, perseverance and compassion.
The Delany Sisters' memories include their associations and friendships with Booker T. Washington, Eleanor Roosevelt, Paul Robeson, Dr. W.E.B. Dubois and many others who also left an indelibly mark on history.  Written by Emily Mann and starring Jennifer Rousseau Cumberbatch and Carla Nickerson, Having Our Say is the Delanys' story - and America's history - in their own words from their unique and candid perspective.
"Their journey informs our own, helping us to examine modern ideals, institutions and public discourse in the light of their candid and thoughtful perspective," said Cumberbatch.  "Bringing the Delany Sisters to light has been a labor of love."
Performances run February 4th at 7 p.m., February 5th at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and February 5th at 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.  Tickets are $30 for general admission, with $15 "Delaney Day" student tickets for the Sunday matinee and $45 "performance and celebration dinner" tickets for the Sunday night show.
The Boyd Vance Theater is located in the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center at 1165 Angelina Street.  For tickets, visit www.HavingOurSay.eventbrite.com.
