Grammy Winners Grupo Fantasma Playing Paramount Theatre on April 30th

Known as the funkiest, finest and hardest working Latin orchestra to come out of the United States in the last decade, Grupo Fantasma has garnered critical acclaim worldwide for their adventurous albums, prudent songwriting and unprecedented live shows.  The Austin-based orchestra returns to Austin for the first time since winning the Grammy Award for a special concert at the historic Paramount Theatre on Saturday, April 30th.
Grupo Fantasma received their first Grammy Award as "Best Latin Rock, Alternative or Urban Album" for their latest CD, El Existential.  The self-produced album was recorded in a custom-built facility - installed in a three-bedroom rental house in Austin - and released on May 11, 2010.
"Considering the DIY and homegrown effort we've built over the last decade, including the immense undertaking and process of producing this album all by ourselves, it feels unbelievable to finally go home as winners," said Adrian Quesad, the band's guitarist.  "And with so many genres combined into this one category with such fierce competition, it's even more of an honor and statement of our hard work over the last ten years."
Brought together by Austin's music scene, Grupo Fantasma formed in 2000 and is comprised of musicians with Latin American and Texan backgrounds.  Praised as one of the most important independent acts in the Latin genre, the band draws from influences including cumbia, salsa, old-school funk, reggae and more.
Tickets for the Austin concert event are $25 to $35.  Doors and the lobby bar open at 7 p.m., with the concert kicking off at 8 p.m.
The Paramount Theatre is located at 713 Congress Avenue in downtown Austin.  For tickets and more information, call (512) 474-1221 or visit
