A musical project created in 1998 by Damon Albarn - of alternative rock band Blur - and British cartoonist Jamie Hewlett, co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl, the Gorillaz new world tour "Escape To Plastic Beach" comes to the Frank Erwin Center on October 22nd.

Tickets go on sale August 13th at 10 a.m.
The new live experience encompasses material from all three multi-platinum Gorillaz albums.  The project consists of the Gorillaz music itself and an extensive fictional universe depicting a "virtual band" of four animated, comic book characters - with video animation, artwork, film and stage design by Hewlett.
The fictional universe is explored through the band's website and music videos, as well as a number of other media. The music is a collaboration between various musicians, with Albarn being the only permanent musical contributor.
The band's self-titled 2001 debut album sold more than seven million copies and earned an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as "The Most Successful Virtual Band."  Their second studio album, Demon Days, was released in 2005 and went five times platinum in the UK, double platinum in the United States, and earned five Grammy Award nominations - winning the 2006 "Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals" category.
The band's third studio album, Plastic Beach, was released in March 2010.   It immediately set two career landmarks - selling more than 112,000 copies in its first week and entering the U.S. album chart at Number 2.
The Austin stop on October 22nd will be only one of 19 dates during the "Escape To Plastic Beach" North American tour.  Tickets go on sale Friday, August 13th at 10 a.m. at all Texas Box Office outlets - including most H-E-B stores - by phone at (512) 477-6060 or 1-800-982-2386, or online at www.TexasBoxOffice.com.
