David Mamet's Glengarry
Glen Ross Opens in February at Hyde
Park Theatre
A Chick & A Dude
Productions will bring David Mamet's sharp dialogue and strong
social commentary to the stage when they produce his
hard-hitting play Glengarry Glen
Ross. An unflinching
portrayal of cut-throat office politics - and the 1984 Pulitzer
Prize winner for Drama, the play runs February 23rd through
March 10th at the Hyde Park
The dark
dramatic comedy follows the lives of four small-time,
cut-throat real estate salesmen grinding out a living by
pushing overpriced, undesirable plots of land on reluctant
buyers. In a never-ending scramble for their share of the
American dream, company big wigs Mitch and Murray declare a
month-long "sales contest" - the top salesman wins a
new Cadillac and the bottom two men lose it all: egos, money
and their jobs. The four salesmen sweet-talk, plan, and
scheme for the perfect client and the hottest sales leads,
which Mitch and Murray make clear are for "closers"
only.
Playwright Mamet
based Glengarry Glen Ross partially on his experiences working
in a male-dominated Chicago real estate
office in the late 1960s. Featuring Mamet's trademark
staccato and rough language, the play is considered by many
theatre critics as one of the great masterpieces of 20th
Century drama.
Directed by Melissa
Livingston-Weaver (2003 B. Iden Payne Award winner and 2011
Payne nominee for "Best Director of a Drama"), the
play features B. Iden Payne Award nominee Tom Green as
"Shelly 'The Machine' Levene," an older,
once-thriving salesman who has fallen on difficult times.
Shanon Weaver (2005 FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award
winner and 2003 B. Iden Payne Award winner) plays top salesman
"Ricky Roma" with Aaron Black as "George
Aaronow," who lacks confidence in his sales skills.
The cast also features Robert L. Berry as despised office
manager "John Williamson," Robert Deike as angry loud
mouth "Dave Moss", Christopher Loveless as timid
client "James Lingk" and Shawn Ferrell as
"Baylen," a police officer investigating an office
break-in that the drives the plot.
Performances run
Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 to
$20 on Thursdays, and $15 to $25 on Fridays and Saturdays.
The production contains very mature themes and strong
language.
The Hyde Park Theatre is
located at 511 W. 43rd Street. For tickets and more
