FronteraFest 2012
Hyde Park Theatre and Scriptworks
January 17th through February 18th
Venues throughout Austin

The largest fringe theatre event in the Southwest - Austin's annual FronteraFest - returns January 17th through February 18th for the 19th annual run of the performance festival.  FronteraFest 2012 will showcase more than 100 performances through three separate components, bringing a unique variety of artists and performers together from across the state - and across the country.
Produced by Hyde Park Theatre and ScriptWorks, the annual FronteraFest continues to offer opportunities for playwrights and actors to explore, experiment and collaborate.  Through the years, FronteraFest has helped transform the face of theater in the Austin metropolitan area, acting as an essential incubator for talent by allowing thousands of writers, actors, directors, dancers, poets, puppeteers, filmmakers and performance artists to hone their skills before a live audience.
FronteraFest began in 1993 as a project of Frontera Productions at Hyde Park Theatre to showcase new works.  In 2002, the festival became a joint collaboration between two of Texas' foremost arts organizations - Hyde Park Theatre and ScriptWorks - and has since been named "Best Theatrical Event" by the Austin Chronicle and "the fringe theatre event of the Southwest" by the Austin American-Statesman.
FronteraFest 2012 will feature familiar faces as well as those new to the Austin performance scene.  This year's line-up includes returning stand-outs such as recent Los Angeles transplant Christy McBrayer, actress and Huffington Post blogger Beth Broderick, and Austin favorites Hank Schwemmer, Rhonda Kulhanek and Kirk German.

The festival consists of three components:

• The Short Fringe, featuring pieces performed under 25 minutes, running Tuesdays through Saturdays at Hyde Park Theatre, from January 18th through February 18th.  Each night will offer new bill of four or five plays, each no longer than 25 minutes, including monologues, plays-in-progress, comedy improv, cabaret singers, avant-garde dance, multimedia, and more.
Every Saturday night, a juried "Best of the Week" performance brings back that week's best performance.  During the last week, February 14th through 18th, the juried "Best of the Fest" takes the stage, with a few wild cards. The Short Fringe tickets range from $12 to $14.

• The Long Fringe, featuring longer productions of up to 90 minutes - including new works by emerging playwrights as well as music and dance - running January 24th through February 5th at the Blue Theatre, located at 916 Springdale Road, and Salvage Vanguard Theatre, located at 2803 Manor Road.  Long Fringe tickets range from $8 to $15.

• Mi Casa es Su Teatro will feature varied performances hosted at private homes on one day only, February 11th, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Tickets will be only $3 per performance, with a free wrap party at the end of the day.

Hyde Park Theatre is located at 511 West 43rd Street.  For a complete schedule, updates, and ticket information, visit www.HydeParkTheatre.org or call (512) 479-PLAY (7529).
