The Drowsy Chaperone Extends at ZACH Theatre Through August 29th

ZACH Theatre’s hit summer staging of the Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone has been extended for an additional three weeks.  Staged by Broadway producer and director Nick Demos - who won the 2010 Tony Award winner as producer of "Best Musical" Memphis - and starring Martin Burke (Santaland Diaries, Take Me Out), the family-friendly homage to great 1930s and 1940s movie musicals plays through August 29th.

The Drowsy Chaperone, the character of the "Man in The Chair" -  who is a die-hard musical fan - plays his favorite cast album, a 1928 hit called The Drowsy Chaperone, to lift his spirits and the musical magically bursts to life in his living room," Demos said.  "In ZACH's original production, the "Man in The Chair" takes an active roll in facilitating the action, helping bring the characters from the album to life and serving as the audience's guide - giving them fun facts, insights and loads of tongue-in-cheek humor."
Burke stars as the "Man in The Chair," along with Jill Blackwood, Meredith McCall, Jamie Goodwin, and a cast of 23 professional singers, dancers and musicians.  Allen Robertson (The Biscuit Brothers) serves as musical director, with choreography award-winning Broadway veteran Robin Lewis (Fosse, Beauty and the Beast).
Performances run Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.  Tickets range from $20 to $49.
ZACH Theatre's Kleberg Stage is located at 1420 Riverside Drive, on the corner of Riverside and South Lamar.  For more information and reservations, call (512) 476-0541, ext. 1, or visit www.ZachTheatre.org.
