Summer Chamber Music Festival
Austin Chamber Music Center
July 9th through 31st

The Austin Chamber Music Center embarks on its 14th-annual Summer Chamber Music Festival from July 9th through 31st.  Launching her fourth festival as Artistic Director, Michelle Schumann has scheduled an eclectic blend of performers - from the classic elegance of the world-renowned Brentano String Quartet to the country crooning of Austinite Kelly Willis.

The Cavani String Quartet will perform Beethoven's "String Quartet No. 2, Opus 18" on July 16th, along with works by Brahms and Polish composer Karol Szymonowski.  This year's festival also offers an innovative program by the avant-garde, jazz-rock collective The Bad Plus on July 17th.
The Brentano String Quartet - recipient of the Naumburg Chamber Music Award - performs an evening of quartets by Haydn and Beethoven on July 18th, along with "Night Songs for a Desert Flower" by contemporary composer Stephen Hartke. Grammy Award-winning tango musician Raul Jaurena returns to the festival, appearing with the Texas Tango Five on July 23rd.
The Carpe Diem String Quartet will join clarinetist Paul Green on July 25th for a performance of Der Golem. The film score, by composer Betty Olivero, will accompany a screening of the 1920s cult cinema classic.
Works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Haydn will be performed by the Claremont Piano Trio on July 24th and the Escher String Quartet on July 30th.  And country inspired singer and songwriter Kelly Willis will students of the Summer Chamber Music Workshop to close out the festival on July 31st.
Several free events  throughout the festival include "Behind the Scenes with the Artists," allowing chamber music enthusiasts an opportunity to interact with festival musicians in a relaxed and intimate setting. Other free concerts and events will showcase both local and visiting artists in various venues around Austin.
The Summer Chamber Music Festival occurs simultaneously with a three week-long Summer Chamber Music Workshop that brings first-rate instruction to Central Texas children. Many of the professional musicians joining the festival will serve as faculty members throughout the workshop.
