Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
July 22nd through August 15th
The City Theatre

The City Theatre unleashes an explosive production of Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning classic Cat on a Hot Tin Roof for a four-week summer run.  The American drama masterpiece plays July 22nd through August 15th.
One of the most successful plays of the 20th century - but rarely performed in Austin - the classic story of a Southern family in crisis focuses on the turbulent relationship of Maggie "The Cat" and her husband, favorite son and former pro-football star Brick. As they gather one evening for the birthday celebration of Brick's father - patriarch and tycoon  Big Daddy Pollitt - at his Mississippi Delta mansion, all are aware that it may be his last. Throughout the evening, alliances made and broken, ghosts of the past emerge with greed and jealousy, lies are spread and revealed, and the ties that hold a family together are stretched to the breaking point with impending doom.
Jeff Hinkle (The Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet) directs the cast that features Tim Brown as "Brick," Rachel McGinnis as "Maggie," Garry Peters "Big Daddy," and Terri Bennett as "Big Mama."  The cast also includes Jonathan Urso as "Gooper," Samantha Brewer as "Mae," Steve Lawson as "Dr. Baugh," and Stephen Wayne Wilder as "Rev. Tooker."
"We don't have many chances like this, and it is an exciting opportunity to experience the power and magnitude of Tennessee Williams' work here in Austin," said director Hinkle.  "This play is perhaps the one most singularly associated with great American theatre, and arguably, the best that he has ever written."
Performances run Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are $15 to $20 for general admission, $25 for reserved front row seating, $12 for students, and $10 for all seats on Thursdays.
The City Theatre is located at 3823 Airport Blvd. Suite D, on the east corner of Airport Blvd. and 38 ½ Street.  For more information and reservations, call (512) 524-2870 or visit
