Austin Poetry Slam
Tuesday Nights
The United States Art Authority
The Austin Poetry
Slam - a weekly poetry competition held at the United States
Art Authority on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. -showcases 12 original
spoken-word artists in a no-holds-barred, raucous, energized
competition. Each week puts egos on the line, along with
$100 in prize money to the top three poets of the night.
Five judges randomly
selected from the audience give each poet a score on a scale of
0.0 to 10.0. The scores are tallied at the end of the
first performances, and the poets with the higher numbers
advance until three poets are left in the final round.
Audience members are
encouraged to cheer for the poets they like and boo the poets
they hate. The audience becomes a major factor as they attempt
to influence the judges.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m.,
and the competition begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 at
the door. ‘
The United States Art Authority is
located at 2906 Fruth Street,
