“Concerts in the Park”
Austin Symphony Orchestra
June 5th through August 29th
The Long Center City Terrace

From big band to classical ensembles, the annual Austin Symphony Orchestra "Concerts in the Park" return June 5th through August 28th.  Presented for the ninth season as a gift to the City of Austin by the Hartman Foundation, the free Sunday evening concerts will be held on The Long Center City Terrace, next to Lady Bird Lake's Auditorium Shores.
Each Sunday starting at 7:30 p.m., a different ensemble of the Austin Symphony will be featured, performing music from jazz and light classical to pops selections and film scores. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and blanket and make it a group outing.
The outdoor park concerts last one hour and are an ideal opportunity for Austinites to enjoy both the Austin Symphony and the cityscape views of downtown Austin.  The 2011 concert schedule includes:
- June 5 - Strings: Program
- June 12 - Brass
- June 19 - Woodwinds: Program
- June 26 - Big Band
- July 10 - Strings
- July 17 - Brass
- July 24 - Woodwinds
- July 31 - Big Band
- August 7 - Strings
- August 14 - Brass
- August 21 - Woodwinds
- August 28 - Big Band
The music and atmosphere is designed to reflect a simpler time, when performances of familiar classics in downtown gathering places were commonplace, said Austin Symphony organizers.  Hartman Family Foundation officials say that they hope these free outdoor events will provide an opportunity for Austinites to become acquainted - or reacquainted - with the classical music experience at Austin's new gathering place for the arts.
No Hartman Concert will be presented on July 3rd, in order to prepare for the annual Austin Symphony Concert and Fireworks on July 4th.  Beginning at 8:30 p.m., the free event on Auditorium Shores annual attracts more than 100,000 spectators.
The "Concerts in the Park" performances are free, and free parking is available at One Texas Center on Barton Springs Road at South 1st Street.  For additional information, call (512) 476-6064, toll free at 1-888-4-MAESTRO, or visit www.AustinSymphony.org.
