July 9th through August 14th
Zilker Hillside Theater in Zilker Park

Zilker Theatre Productions celebrates its 52nd season of free musical theatre by staging Annie for the 2010 Zilker Summer Musical.  The free production plays the Beverly S. Sheffield Hillside Theatre in Zilker Park from July 9th through August 14th.
"The Zilker Summer Musical has always been about gathering friends and family together to enjoy an evening under the Austin stars at the timeless hillside theatre," said Melinda Parr, Executive Producer.  "As we embark on our 52nd season, we look forward to the joy of sharing this iconic musical with the Austin community."
With a book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse, and lyrics by Martin Charnin, the award-winning musical - based on the popular Tribune Media Service comic strip "Little Orphan Annie" - centers on a spunky, resilient Depression-era orphan determined to find the parents who abandoned her at a New York City orphanage.  Her many adventures include escaping the orphanage and the embittered Miss Hannigan, befriending a homeless dog named Sandy, visiting billionaire Oliver Warbucks, and charming President Franklin Roosevelt.
When Annie opened in New York in 1977, the show won seven Tony Awards, including "Best Musical" and "Best Original Score."  The perennial favorite includes the popular songs "It's the Hard-Knock Life," "Easy Street," and the ultimate anthem of optimism: "Tomorrow."
The Zilker Theatre Productions staging features Jordan Morgan and Sarah Nichols alternating in the title role of "Annie," with Emily Bem as "Miss Hannigan" and Scott Shipman as "Oliver Warbucks."   Stage and music direction are by Michael McKelvey, with choreography by Stuart Moulton.
Performances run Thursday through Sunday evenings at sundown - approximately 8: 30 p.m. The production runs approximately two hours.
The non-profit organization Zilker Theatre Productions mounts large-scale musical productions each year in Zilker Park.  Approximately 50% of the organization's revenue comes from the contributions of individuals and audience members.
Zilker Summer Musical performances are free, but performers “pass the hat” during intermission.   For more information, visit www.Zilker.org or call
